FYI   You can do a Google Seach on Gas Prices for your zip code and it will list the stations with the lowest prices in your area.

  • Do it today, tomorrow may be too late......

Derv/Diesel now at $9.16 per US Gallon - in my Land Rover that equals about 41 cents per mile.

As Ecgons said our fuel is tax on tax - Out of the $9.16 we pay $1.52 in Value Added Tax to the government and around $6.10 for the fuel tax. Making a token sum to the government of just $7.52 Tax per US Gallon of fuel. The other $1.64 is shared out unequally between the gas station owners and the oil companies.

It's now costing me around $180 to fill up my Land Rover.

Think I'll move to Venezuela.

Never! While it's true that the fuel economy is much better on the scooter, the real reason is with a short riding season in Northern Illinois, I'll ride on two wheels at every possible chance  ;D

:soapbox:  can we end this thread?  Truth is, riding for most of us is our release from reality and preservation of sanity.  It would take a lot more than gas prices to stop us from riding or planning a trip that has been on our minds since the previous riding season or  trip.  Now, if we want to start a thread about how pissed off we are about gas prices, record profits, oil companies not paying tax...or the current administration (that one will get thrown out quickly) than lets do it!

I’m planning on about a 5,000 mile trip this summer.  If gas passes the $5 threshold, I’ll be canceling Sturgis and just taking a few short local weekend trips instead.  Not that I can't pay those prices, just that I won't.

I'll cut corners elsewhere!!

Simple process, either pay the price or walk. I guess if all the posters on here were selling a product they knew was overpriced they would lower it ?? I don't think so. If the oil companys don't make money they have no insentive to drill for more oil. Most people do not realize the risk & investment involved in drilling for oil. Natonolize the oil & it would probably be 10 a galllon for gas once the government got involved. In my part of the country when prices are high everyone is working & when it is low many many are not. I have made my living in the business for 35 + years & do not like the high prices but understand why they are. Sorry if this offends anyone but could not help myself.

Gas prices went up as much as 50 cents a gallon overnight - last night.

News reports indicate an issue with a local refinery yesterday, and a technical issue with a pipeline that runs between Alberta and the Midwest.

This is were regulation would be helpful.

Most businesses suffer a loss when a problem or breakdown occurs in their factory or shop.  But not the gas industry.  Seems like it would be awful easy to claim "technical issue", raise prices and reap profits.  I'm not sure why the public has to pay inflated gas prices due to a lack of maintenance of equipment by the oil companies...    :nixweiss:
