Traction?
« on: May 15, 2006, 05:07:53 PM »

I recently added a little more breathe to my "pickle". While riding two up the bike performs and handles very well.  Hard accelleration from rolling starts typically lofts the front tire a foot off the ground and away we go. On my first night out with just the boys, I was unable to bring the bike out of the hole or even from a rolling start without exccesive tire spin. I tried even tried starting in 2nd and still lots of smoke. Frustrating to have all this power and only being able to unlease it when the ole' lady is on back. Any help fellas?

Too EZ... just bring momma every time you wanna do burnouts!  ;)
On the serious side, maybe lower your tire pressure some. The more you heat up a tire, the higher the tire pressure and that results in less "patch" contact with the road. Be careful though as too little tire pressure can do BAD things for stability and sidewall contact with the rim. :o

Yeah, 'er 'uh, VANAMAL,
I roll the throttle in 1st and 2nd, as opposed to snappin' it, or I have the same problem.  Just like in the old days, with an S&S carburetor, before they had accelerator pumps.  You had to roll the throttle, or it would cough out.  Works for me, on Dunlops, of course.  I weigh in about 240.  Later--HUBBARD

Some pictures with the front wheel 12" off the road and some rear tire spin/smoke would be a welcome post to the site.

the tires rip loose in second gear? [smiley=nixweiss.gif] but you still get enough traction to lift the wheels? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
don't sound right.

I have lifted the front end and spun the tire but only with the ole lady on back. Riding solo , I only get tire spin. I'll try the throttle roll and see what happens. the tire pressure thing concerns me as far as stability. But I will try that as well. I will get some pics of the "problem" to share. I haven't dyno'ed tuned the motor yet but it seems very healthy compared to the stock unit. I have a 100hp softail and I don't have the same problem with it. Could be the ineffiecient chassis of the softail. As soon as I get a dyno chart I'll post that as well.By the way I had the work done at Doc's HD in Kirkwood Mo. 103+ heads and pistons, cometic head gasket, T-man 600 gear drive cams, PCIII, and Thunder header 2 into1. more to follow

Not me, I get one or the other riding solo, never both.  I don't try things like that 2 up (Tired of getting smacked on the helmet)  ;D

It's the Dunlops after the first 100 miles they never really hook up, when I ran the Metzelers (between dunlops) the front wheel would come off the ground much easier!!! [smiley=pumpkin.gif]
