My bike is set up with a solo seat, and even though I still have the luggage rack on the bike, other than being chrome and looking good, with the solo configuration, the luggage rack is too far away to put a t-bag on my back rest.  If I add the passenger pillion I could set the t-bag on it and not worry about scratching my paint - this is my theory at least.  I do have a tour pak, but I like the look of my bike with out it so much better, and with the suction cups, I could pull the t-bag and the passenger pad off real quick and still keep that real sleek look I have going right now.  Do you guys have any opinions, suggestions?  Thanks.

Mrs. We;
I think that your idea will work very well. I had a suction cup pad for my Shovelhead and it worked well. You'd be suprised how well they stick. Sorry, I don't remember that brand that I had.

Hi Mrs.WeCVO!

You may want to consider one of the racks from Motherwell too?

Try this link to see them,

Sounds like a winner of an idea.  The only thing I would caution on is riding in the wet stuff.  My Softail was a solo rig and I laid up a suction cup rack for my t-bag o that back every once in a while.....   but on two occasions when it was wet, the grit migrated up under the edges of the suction cup and left scuffs in the paint...   Keep an eye on that, 'cuz I know nobody likes a scuffed rear end!  ;)

I've run the Phantom pad for years on my various bikes. Never has an issue. When comparing pads check the bottom of the pad to see what it is coved with material wise and how its covered. I've seen them with rivets, abrasive material and so on. The Phantom is around $100 or so.

Typical setup for a Big Dog.  In fact on a Ridgeback, both seats are suctions!  Look at the Big Dog site for more info.  A friend bought his Ridgeback in Daytona and rode it back solo.  He put on the suction passenger pillon and his wife rode it all the way to/from PCB for Thunder on the Beach!  Insane!  Anyway, another site to look at is this one...http://www.bikersfriend.com/pages/fenderguard.htm or http://www.bikersfriend.com/pages/harleygallery.htm
They offer a luggage pillon for the same purpose and show it on several models.  The trick is to making sure the paint is clean and so are the suction cups before mounting or it will rub the grit into the paint.

BTW, I rode on the passenger pillon on the Ridgeback for a while.  Not great, but not bad.  Too d@mn loud to ride it long at all regardless of seat comfort!!!

  Mrs.WeCVO, I would also put several coats of wax wherever you plan to attach the suction cups to help protect your paint on your [smiley=cherry.gif].  Wax, Wax and more Wax.  Remember the old saying about an ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

Wouldn't wax make it slick, and thus the suction cups might slip?  I think I would use some of the clear protective tape, like the MoCo uses on the SEEG side covers.  Just an idea.

I would be more inclined to go with the wax over the protective film.  (the film always looks a little tacky to me)  I don't think the wax necessarily makes it slick, it just makes it smooth, which would actually inprove the stickability of the suction cup.  (how's that for a new word!)  ::)

Mrs. WeCVO I again agree with Coolbreeze [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif], the wax will protect your the finish of the paint.  The reason you want to put several coats of wax is to provide as much protection as you can.  Touch a waxed surface and touch an unwaxed surface and you will feel how smooth the finish is of the waxed surface compared to the unwaxed surface.  The waxed surface will make the suctions a hear (aka stick) to the bike better.  Always try to wipe down the surface even if it looks clean the dust can work against your paint and cause it to have light scratches or worse.  Remember that the rubber suction cups moves and will keep rubbing anything that is underneath it into your paints finish.  Hope this helps!!

Can't say I disagree with your observation, 'breeze; the smoother the surface the better the suction cups should stick.  However, the reason I suggest the film is the issue brought up by orangeseeg - if the cups do slide around or get moisture/dirt/whatever under them, the wax won't protect the paint the way the clear film does.  Once you're finished with the suction cup device, just peel off the film and the appearance is back to normal.

Either way, the surface and the cups need to be squeaky clean before installation.

I have a Phantom pad  that I put on my softail that i would sell you if you want one. It is one with the stitched design. I have a T-bag for sale also. It is a Harley made by SAC.  I have used both of them 4 times going to Myrtle Beach.  I no longer have the softail so I do not need it.
