Brian just a thought. You should take your guitar to a good Luthier and have it checked out and set up for you. Reason I say is I bought a brand new Strat a couple of years ago and almost gave up until I did this and turns out it was way out of wack from the factory and now sounds and plays real nice. Good luck with your playing they all tell me it's never to late to learn. Practice is the key that is why the kids learn so fast sitting in their room for hours everyday.

X2 on getting the guitar set up right...makes a huge difference in how it plays.  I used to be able to play a little bit, but after I figured out I was never going to be another Jerry Garcia, faced reality and sold them all.  It's still fun just for your own pleasure though.  I've got an ear for it, just not the hands.

Don...this guy didn't have all his fingers either... ;)

X3 on getting the guitar set-up properly. Really makes a difference.

I've tinkered with the guitar for years now. Unlike you I'm more of a rhythm player because at one time I was a lead singer. Learning some lead riffs is on my 'bucket list'. My suggestion is find a local Guitar Center and browse the books/videos. Lots of stuff out there but you gotta find what appeals to your skill level. Good Luck!
