« on: May 18, 2006, 11:08:12 PM »

Has any body tried this? If so how does it handle in the sweeps and twisties? Was it worth it? This kit can be had by a local for 6500..

No experience with a 200 mm rear, but I am glad I went with the 150/80 rear on my bike.

Simple reply - When was the last time youve seen  a  wide tire haul-in a$$ in the corners.  I own a    8 1/2 foot long, 180 rear, its great for just cruisin around and going to the bar and real fast. I will take my bagger on the twisty's every time.

Haven't and most times i my way.. I haven't seen an E-glide set up with one and thought it was an interesting look. Figured it to be the same, but with the weight wasn't sure if there was any difference..

Mark,

Not specifically due to tire width, looks a little more slammed as the profile is slightly lower than the stock Dunlop it replaced.  The noticeable improvement in handling and ride quality is attributed to the fact the tire is new more than anything else.  I also like the metzeler's better than the Dunlops, however if you are a Dunlop fan, they make the same size rear tire for SE baggers.  Also note that load rating is 71 versus 77 for OEM tire.  This would only be a factor if you were going to load the bike up (two up, tour pack, etc.).  I ride solo so it is not a concern for me and the lower load rating may contribute to improved handling.  Just my .02.

I don't believe that tire would do much to enhance the performance of the bike.  Don't forget that most wide tires are worthless in the rain.  They tend to hydroplane.  I wouldn't spend the money for that type of modification.

I have a Metzler 160/60VR18 on my 05 with a 4.25" rear wheel, no additional expense, other than buying wheel/tire. Only modification was to lightly notch the back side of the lower belt guard. Dia of tire is within .05 of the original which keep speedo accuate. Frt is a 140/70/18 Metzler on 3.5" wheel. I only have about 1500 miles on them so far, but no problems. Corners just like before, no high speed problems, has just worked fine.
I will try to upload photos. Motorcycle tires with there radius are not as prone to hydroplane as car applications, but if wide tires cause hydroplane problems, owners of new Vette's are in trouble (not).
