Rider backrest
« on: May 31, 2011, 09:54:17 PM »

Installed a rider backrest and I hate it. It would not work with stock seat so I had to use my Sundowner. I feel like I am sitting on top of the tank now. Anything else I may need to try first before I pull this thing back off?

I have the non-adjustable backrest and works fine with the stock seat. Might need to adjust the location of the mounting bracket on the fender. I believe that there are three positions.

Take the seat off and look again, It will work with the stock seat, you just have it mounted in the wrong holes, it will move forward and back to line up with slot in seat. Just slow down and look again. You will like it when it is on correctly, really feel better after about 150 miles!

If you've been riding without a backrest for years......when you first start riding with one, it'll feel like it's got you up on the tank.

The mounting bracket has different positions.....move it furthest back.

I'm 6'4" and I couldn't ride very far without it, anymore.

You must get the fender bracket in the right place for it to be comfortable for you.  I don't know which backrest you have, but the one that came with my SERGU also has an angle adjustment on the back of the backrest itself...it's a small hole in the back of the padded part that is adjustable with an allen wrench.

As mentioned, once you get used to it, you'll notice your back feeling better after a long ride.

Just received my new riders backrest from M&M last week - looking forward to trying it out.

Hoghvn... how did you make out with that adjustable backrest mount?  I am about to pull the trigger on that same part?

Were you able to get it to fit through the stock seat slot?
