Garage Door Opener Quit
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:52:08 AM »

When I got home yesterday, the HD garage door opener would not work.  It has worked without a single problem for over three years.

I tried to unplug the 110 power cord on the module connected to the garage door opener for a few minutes to see if it would reset, but this didn't work.  The little red LED is still lit on the module connected to the garage door opener.

Anyone had this problem??

The next simple thing to do is check the contacts where the remote module's wires connect to the opener.  Perhaps some sandpaper to clean the contacts and remove the next 1/2" from the wires that connect.  I don't know how to make sure the bike still sending a signal.  Does it flash or anything?  I've never been in the garage with the bike when I used it to open or close the door.

The same thing happened to mine about a week ago and I've tried everything I can think of to reset it, etc.   >:(

This happened to me before and I ended up having to buy a new module (the in-garage piece, nothing new for the bike).  I'm afraid I'm headed down that path again but would like to try any suggestions anyone has before I spend the $.

It has happened to me more than once.  Once the receiver was defective.  But other times I have remedied the problem by re-initializing the receiver with the transmitter that is on the bike.  Don't know why they would lose their ability to communicate but it has happened on several occassions over the last six years.

I will try the suggestions.  If none of these work, I ain't buying the HD stuff... too much $$$.  I have Flash2Pass on my other bike and it works great for about $65

Thanks for that post...  :2vrolijk_21:  I had never heard of Flash2Pass before... I think I like that idea... I also like that it can be programmed to open/close 2 garage doors at the same time (i.e. the shop door where the bike gets parked and the actual garage door to my house...  And you're right... the HD option is too much money to have what will be two failures for me within 3 years...

When the power goes out at my house all I do is unplug the receiver and the plug it back in. That must reset it and it works OK until the next power outage.

Check the wiring on the opener, had the same problem and the very small wire on the HD transmitter was not making contact.  Re installed the wiring and all is working.

Mine went out also right after it went into the shop.  They forgot to hook it back up and now it's fine.

This has to be done to my Sears car openers every now and then. Adding the motorcyle receiver may complicate the signal even more.
