Saw one of the HD Competition III leather waterproof jackets at Sturgis.  They say it has the same waterproof liner in it as the FXRG jacket. Does anyone know anything about them?

Salesman at HD display said it's the same as the FXRG without the kidney belt and a lot of the inside pockets. The rear ventilation vent is up high instead of down low where a rider backrest would interfere with airflow.

I'm pretty sure the FXRG "water-proofness is in the jacket, not the liner. At least it is with mine.

You're right, it's sewn into the jacket. I'm just wondering if they used the same one in the Competition III.

Seems HD has changed the chinese supplier of the jackets, and ended up with a different construction.

The original FXRG jacket had it's "waterproffness" in the leather itself, no special linings.
The current line up now lists a separate, attached membrane.

has a fixed CoolMax® lining and wind- and waterproof c_change™ membrane technology from Schoeller® that reacts to body temperature and moisture levels to ensure an optimum body climate.
 
So the Competition III appears to be very similar, even in description, to the original FXRG. They even look the same except for the HD moniker across the front.
Pricing seem to be in line with the FXRG from several years ago. And still overpriced.
