CD player not playing
« on: May 22, 2006, 05:11:01 PM »

On the ride to the Hideout on Sunday,  I noticed that my CD player wouldn't play.  A good bitch slap got her going again,  but I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

Haven't had the problem and I use mine a lot. Maybe try a different CD if it happens again just to troubleshoot? Might also be a dirt/dust issue. You might try running a CD cleaning disk in it. Just a thought.

_Beagle,
Was this a pre-recorded CD or one you dubbed? Also you may want to clean the heads as preventive maintenance. What you mention as stop playing may be a momentarily "skip"? Hope this helps. If not just "beeeaaauch slap" it again. ;D

Screamin_Beagle, you can also try using a CD cleaner disk.  They sell them at Radio shack.  I have attached a link for you a look at what the have:

Hope this helps.

What's always given me a laugh is the "CD cleaner".  If you suspect dirt on the laser lens, how does putting in a CD "clean" it??  The lens doesn't contact the CD, so how is playing a CD going to clean the dirt off the laser lens??  If it actually cleaned the lens, the bottom of the CD should be fuzzy, so it wipes the laser lens.  jmho.

Actually, it is "fuzzy".  Little brushes embedded in the surface of the CD, or on some brands little pads that you moisten with a special cleaner solution.

PS - cleaning has fixed the "skips" for me on two occassions.  Now for the part that makes no sense:  Why does this keep occurring on the bike, but I have never had to clean the lens on any of the players in god knows how many cars, or home players?  This really shouldn't be like this.

I guess I haven't looked at the fuzzy one's.  All I've ever seen have been simple CD's.  Of course, I've never had a CD skip anyway, so I haven't looked too hard for a cleaner.
