Fullsac Stage 1 and TTS
« on: August 08, 2011, 05:50:45 PM »

OK got the X "B" header installed, the 2 inch cores and the bike sounds and runs good.

I also have the TTS and Steves map for this combination, and I"ve been a TTS user for quite a while, and generally the consensus for any map is that in order for the AFR/Lambda tables to properly apply the desired AFR, it's important that the VE values be established for the engine
you are using.

Now this is not to say  that anything is wrong at all with the map provided by Steve.

However, we know not every engine is exactly the same, so I am considering
making a copy of the map per TTS, loading the copy (keeping the original)
into the ECM and doing VE tuning runs, I want to see what if any changes
the TTS software is reading from the  VE log and if there are any significant
changes to be made.

Now I am not talking about changing the lambda values for target AFR
or the timing (yet but that idle timing - heat issue is going to be addressed LOL)

however if in fact the target AFR/Lambda figures are spot on,
then the only way they can be hit is if the VE's are spot on for that particular build.

Once the  VE's are properly set then the tune can be fine
tuned making runs for knock and other factors.  There is a
big discussion going on HTT about  Ion Knock in the ECM and
it's intrusion into the equation as it can take out a significant
amount of timing at any one instance, killing power..

One guy had severe cases of Ion Knock retard going on with
one cylinder and found replacing the plug solved most of it.

Anyway, Hopefully I'll get the map, laptop and 7 inch Video up
and running (rain holding off) this evening and get some
tuning runs done.

I can always kick back to Steves base map, but I really want to do it
to find out if there is more that I need to do...

the 'Knock" has been an issue with several bikes. easy fix is to change the plugs to 32186-10

Larry,

Is the 32186-10 application for the 110's?
Which application for a 103 Ltd?

it applies to the heads, any screamin eagle or high compression. we have been able to get rid of the knock by using these plugs.

Really? Thats surprising... After having some ping under WOT, everything I read/heard about suggested the basic OEM plugs are best for ensuring the ion knock sensor system works as it should. I switched back to the basic plugs and indexed them, after going with the double platinums (not the SE ones you speak of).

I still have a bit of ping sometimes under WOT unless I use 94 octane...not sure if I should also give up my SE 10 mm wires for the thin OEM wires too.

I grabbed these from a thread on HTT but it shows how changing a plug can help.

Graph 1 is before changes, notice the brown line, that is adaptive spark retard going on from the Ion Sensing program on the front cylinder.  Note the amount of times the ECM is basically pulling timing.

Now after the run, they changed the plug to one that was in the saddlebag, 5 years old. Notice the difference
the adaptive spark retard is virtually gone...

Hotrod,

Which Plugs?
Which engine set up was this in?

This was just a stock HD plug swap for swap, same type of plug.

While it might be that you need to change to the specific plug listed
in this thread, it could also be that one or both of the plugs you
have are on the edge as far as the Ion Sensing application
and that those plugs or plug causes you issues.

The key is to use the tools provided such as TTS Mastertune provides
to run the data records and look for the issue as you see above
with the brown line per the front cyl.

Once you have the data you can make observations of what's going
on and then, if you are not sure of the path to take, ask questions
of those who have tuned and determine the best course of action.

I see guys who complain a lot that the program itself should allow
them to change the Ion Sensitivity to correct the retardation by the system
when in fact they should be using the data to determine what's causing
the action by the ecm in the first place.

This is a problem on high compression builds for the most part,
CVO 110s are high compression engines...

Did a short ride to collect data for VE tonight and to test my setup
Laptop in tour pack,
usb monitor on bars
hook up went easy, loaded Fullsac map for my build

Setup the tuning constants as TTS recommends
Lambda tables to cause all cells to record (closed loop trigger)
PE to 10K

Here is the result of a short ride, note that
there are several cells that TTS feels it needs
to modify the VE setting, I am staying away from the WOT
cells per TTS and Steves suggestion anyway and this
wasn't a run for all cells just a test run.

Red means large changes
the lighter reds and pink show % change
and there are enough to prove that a VE tune
will help get the bike to hit the AFR that Fullsac
dyno tuned the map to achieve.
