Interstate 80 to Steamboat Springs, Colorado....
« on: July 23, 2011, 11:30:33 AM »

Coming across Nebraska on Interstate 80, there are three routes that will get you to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Interstate 80 to Laramie, Wy., then drop down on 230/127/125/14/40 to Steamboat Springs.

Interstate 80 to Denver via I 76/I 70 then Hwy. 40 to Steamboat Spring.

Interstate 80 to 14 to Fort Collins, then Hwy. 40 to Steamboat Springs.

Each route is relatively the same mileage and time - more or less.

What I don't know is which route is the most scenic for a bike trip.

I'd appreciate some feedback from anyone familiar with the area...   :2vrolijk_21:

Have ridden the 66 to 34 to 40 route from Boulder to Steamboat. Rocky mountain Natn'l Park is worth the trip. Granby Lake is a beautiful place and coming into Steamboat on 40 from the west is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful country out there. Have also ridden I 70 out of Denver through Vail and trned north on 131 just past Edwards. Not as pretty, lots of open range riding. Faster trip probably. I 70 is surprisingly beautiful and moves right along.

Enjoy your trip whatever route you take!
