Help upgrade 2011 110 engine
« on: July 10, 2011, 06:11:41 PM »

I'm new to the board and bought the 2011 CVO Roadglide in Ivory in March. I have VH Powerduals and VH HO mufflers as well as Harley race tuner. Although it has the 110, I am looking for more power off the line. I thought about the 555 Woods cams but I have also heard that headwork is the only way to see a real difference. I am about 6'2'' 320 and I mention that as some suggest it makes a difference in overall speed. Anyone modified a 110 motor and if so how did it come out. Thanks

You may want to start by doing a search of the site.  Many of us have done motor mods...from mild to all out!

But for openers, the Fueling 574, Mackie 575 and various Woods cams are strong bolt in cams.  Of course, a tuner and good exhaust must accompany the cams to reap the benefits...

2010 SE Ultra (110). Hillside Headwork, Woods 408-6 cam, 58MM TB, 5.3gm/sec injectors, roller rockers, adj pushrods, D&D Fatcat with ghost pipe, Dyno-tuning with Dynojet Powervision. Bike went from 77hp/100ft-lbs stock to 115hp/119ft-lbs. Very satisfied.

If your main concern is off the line performance, take a look at changing the final drive ratio.  Several threads around here concernng a 30 tooth trans output sprocket.

Pardon me for laughing but asking this group if anyone have modified the motors is funny. :2vrolijk_21:

There are some real power junkies on here and I like power too. I thought the 110 should have been stronger and I was a tad let down when I bought my CVO FatBob. My  FLHRC had been worked to a 103 with pistons and cams so I had hoped for more of the 110. I put a Propipe on it with a tuner and still not satisfied. My dealer reccomended the 110 upgrade kit out of the SE catalogue and now I am fairly pleased. 111hp and 120 TQ.

You'd probably benefit from what Jerry suggested...the 30 tooth sprocket.  Even the newer 6 speeds are geared fairly tall, though not as bad as a few years back.  That and a good bolt-in cam, as Sadnubar suggested, might just get you where you want to be without getting seriously into the motor.  As we say down here in Alabama...you're a purdy good sized 'ol boy.   :huepfenlol2:

Do these cams require new valve springs or will the stockers work?

The Mackie 575 and Feuling 574 cams work with stock springs.  Most similiar Woods cams work with stock springs also...   T Man also makes some nice bolt in cams...  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks guys, yeah it is pretty funny as everyone's a speed freak, but I'm fairing new to riding (3yrs). mods, I wanted to try and gauge if I have to actually crack the engine open or would the bolt-in cam route, throttle pak, etc. do the trick. You've given me some good ideas. I'll look into the sprocket.  I put the Fueling reaper 574 on my Police Bike but traded it in for this one a couple months later.

Heatwave, quick question, I just bought the 555 cams from Woods. Did you put the cams on before the headwork or everything together.

I had the headwork, cams 408-6, TB, roller rockers and dyno-tuning done all at once. It's the best approach particularly if you have any future plans to get headwork done. I very pleased with the results. It'll cost you more to do the work twice and pay for 2 dyno tunes.
