Rumble collection mirrors
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:45:05 PM »

I have a set of these that the stems are starting to peel, and have considered having them re-plated, or powder coated but I can't figure how to disconnect the stem from the mirror.  There are no visible screws or clips that I can find.  Does someone know how to get them apart, thought maybe the glass would have to be removed, but don't know how to do that either.  Appreciate some help.

This is probably not help but in the parts book, the mirrors and stems are shown as a single piece.   :(

Thanks, but they are two separate parts.  I just don't know how to separate them.  It looks to me like the glass has to be removed to get at the screws or keepers that hold the swivel onto the mirror.   Was hoping someone has tried to remove the glass, or has another idea.  Thanks.

I spent a long time trying - didn't succeed in getting the glass off in one piece, despite soaking with lots of solvents..

Jim, I was thinking about trying a heat gun to see if that would soften the glue.  Were you able to get the glass replaced?

I didn't try a heat gun, so that might work - there are no replacement glasses available either, of course, so if you get it off, it would have to go back on!

Seems to me there was a a lot members that had complaints about the chrome on these mirrors, including me. My dealer replaced other defected chrome parts, but declined to replace the mirrors because of the Florida Climate! BULL SH-T. POOR QUALITY CHROME plain and simple.  :soapbox:

I have not approached the dealer yet, but from earlier conversations, I believe he is going to disallow the claim because I to live on the sea coast.  Even though no other chrome on the bike has been affected.
