Boom Audio Speakers vs. Others
« on: August 06, 2011, 09:14:12 PM »

Just purchased a Road Glide Ultra which has the H-D Boom Audio speakers on the front and rear. Overall the stereo system sounds pretty good. Any opinions on how these speakers compare to some others? Anybody done some upgrades?

My Hertz HCX 165 6.5" speakers have a little more bass and sound more "crisp" than the Booms that came in my SESG. However, the amp keeps fading in and out so I need to have that addressed. For the money invested ($400) I'm satisfied with the outcome. Sounds as nice as my buddy's Hawg Wired system.

No doubt, there are better systems out there...like Hawg Wired for example, or J&M components.  The current system is a fairly significant improvement over the "older" speakers that were on my '06 SEUC.  You can still overpower the speakers, even with the stock HK radio and amp, but overall, I'm fine with the stock system.  I'll have to qualify that by saying that the only time I run my system thru the speakers is when it's parked...the rest of the time, I feed everything into my Nolan N102 Modular helmets with J&M Premium Headsets.  Two reasons for that...one, I don't think everybody else really wants to hear my choice in music when sitting at a stoplight or riding through some populated areas, and second, I just prefer the tunes, GPS, etc piped straight to my ears.  I'm pretty picky about my stereo systems...to the point where I've ordered a particular car because it had a better stereo system than the model below it, and I've got an old, but still excellent, Yamaha/Bose system in the house.  If I really want to blow it out, I play one of those.
