ipod interface alternative
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:32:43 PM »

Any one tried this yet?

Saw this, thought I would share.

http://onthemovetechnology.com/default.aspx

"On The Move Technology brings the rumble of a Harley Davidson® and the rumble of your favorite music together at last.  The HDPDPLUS iPod interface connects to the Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon®, FACTORY INSTALLED ON ALL 2006-2012 TOURING BIKES, and it will work with your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and it will also work with your 5th Generation iPod and iPod Classic. *

The HDPDPLUS will not only charge and control the compatible iPods, but it will also automatically play and pause your iPod with the ignition and source switching as well.  Now you will be able to have endless hours of music without ever having to worry about the battery going dead on your iPod when riding again.

The HDPDPLUS is the perfect addition to 2006-2012 Harley Touring bikes.  Its unique design allows it to be completely compatible with all factory options such as CB, Intercom, Satellite radio, and Navigation system with out having to buy any expensive cables.  With the addition of the HDPDPLUS the rider will be able to use the handle bar controls, and the radio soft buttons to control the iPod just like having it off of the bike.  By having the freedom of using the factory hand controls it will allow you to change Tracks, Playlist, Artists, Albums, and Genres with minimal distraction from the road. **

This unit will show up on your Advanced Audio System® as iPod® and can be chosen by either pressing the corresponding soft button or by pressing the MODE SEL button on the handlebars. The HDPDPLUS installs neatly underneath the fairing on top of the radio using the factrory mounts.  This smart, clean, and easy installation will have you rocking and roaring down the road in less than an hour from start to finish."

One thing I noticed is that the video stated that it 'pauses' with the ignition...so does it sit in the glove box and get discharged instead of turning off?  I am having trouble with the Ipod in my Jeep......after a trip, it's locked up (sleep mode)but not discharged...my buddy, with his VW, put the Ipod in the glove box over a year ago and has not touched it since.

There usually seems to be some sort of a glitch on most Ipod interfaces...I hope not on this one!

...and they say NO extra cables required like the HD version for some bikes.

Just talked to them.....puts the Ipod to sleep when ignition turned off or using another mode...so we can just put it in the glove box and not have to touch it.

The sunami has delayed his shipment...I think he said he's hoping for 2nd week of aug.

Doesn't the HD unit do that also??? Mine goes to sleep when I shut the bike--I guess in about a minute or so.

In reviewing their sites video, it seems you can change playlists from the handlebar.  My Road Glide ultra doesn't seem to do that.  When I hold the mode button up it just scrolls faster thru the songs in the list, but, doesn't change to the next list.  I may try on for the wife's ultra.

With the HD interface or this one?  With the HD interface, to change playlist, you have to hit the top left soft key on the radio.  That scrolls through the playlists.  It could be the 2nd key, but pretty sure it's the 1st.

This looks like a really nice option.  Is there anything that you have to do to get it hooked up?

I was referring to the new kit.  It's a bit of a reach on the Road Glide to hit the soft keys while riding.  It would be nice to be able to do it from the handlebar like their video shows.
