Front Turn Signal Problem
« on: May 29, 2006, 11:53:59 AM »

I have had a problem with blowing the bulbs out on my 2004 SEEG and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.  My Harley dealer has tried to address the problem but it still persists.  It seems the running light element burns out and the flashing turn signal element still works.

Thanks

John

John, see this thread (http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1111629423/0), then switch from the crappy GE bulbs to Stanley brand.  You won't have any more problems. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

John, here is another site for you to check out:

http://www.kuryakyn.com/lthd.asp?bn=harley&cn=Lighting      than go to:

http://www.kuryakyn.com/category.asp?bn=harley&cn=Lighting&sn=L%2EE%2ED%2E+Conversions

This is what I have on my SEEG2.

4836  Front L.E.D. Conversions - New Bullet Style, Amber Lens

4822  Rear L.E.D. Turn Signal Conversion - New Bullet Style, Red Lens

4833  Laydown Panacea Taillight, Smoke Lens

I have not seen anything any better than these.  They are all LED lights and it gives you front and rear running lights as well.  The rear stop light flashing three times before staying on solid.  It also gives you a yellow LED arrow for left or right turns from your taillight!!  It looks and works great [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]!!

I think I'll try the Stanley bulbs first.  Where can you buy these Stanley 1157A at?  I have learned they are not at every parts store.

Somebody please help me,

John

I think the bulbs you are going to want to get are the 1157NA the 1157A are just coated w/amber (which tend to peel when they get wet) where as the 1157NA bulb itself is amber. Also load the bulb and socket up w/dielectric grease to prevent water from getting in, and shorting out the bulb. Ever since I switched to the 1157NA's and loaded bulb/socket w/dielectric grease I don't have the problem anymore.

BTW - I don't recall getting any specific brand, just the 1157NA bulb. Picked them up from auto parts store (sorry can't remember which one either NAPA, Auto Zone, or Advance)

Might try here:

http://www.replacementlightbulbs.com/lampshardtofindnumber.html

I'd call first since they list other brands.  If you can't find the Stanley's, try any other brand but the GE's.  I was toasting those things and burning the amber coating off of them regularly, until I upgraded to the accessory lenses with the chrome trim rings and the package came with new amber bulbs that were a different brand (Stanley).  Once I switched them out, no more problems.

Can you give me a little more info on the accessory lens and trim rings?  Are they a Harley part, or whose are they?  About how much did this cost?
Thanks,
John

Kuryakyn also has a lens and chrome bezel combination that will dress up the turn signals - a little different than the H-D parts, in that the bezel is not shaped like a visor, and a thin strip of the lens shows between the bezel and the stock housing.   http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=Harley&ci=2539
