Progressive 412's....Nice
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:33:54 AM »

My last three touring platforms I've used the 11.5" HD (Heavy Duty) 440 IAS shocks. Pretty pricey at around 550+ for a ride that was really only marginally better than stock. I really did it to get another 1/2" lower..which I like, but with a little less travel the ride wasnt always as good as the air shocks with the correct (whatever that means) pressure.

So...on my '11 SESG I wanted that 1/2" less height, but actually like the stock shocks. Pulled the trigger anyway and got the HD 412's in the 11.5" and installed them late yesterday. Went out for a 2 hour run all over the place and at mid setting they blow away the 440's in comfort...at least for me. 440's in a HD are pretty stiff, he 412's seemed a more compliant and have good travel. Oh yeah, these were 215.00 shipped.

Just sharing... ::)

What about ground clearance on cornering?? I had 11.5" Progressive's (don't remember which model) on my '10 SESG and I was scraping on turns--and I mean turns that I thought should have been fine...not to mention how hard it was on bumps....had them on about a week and had to remove and go back to stock.

13" stock
12" Mo Co low profile (std on SG)
The 412's are a 1/2 lower yet and ride quality is good? ground clearance? especially at the bend of the cross under pipe on left side  :nixweiss:
if you ride agressive in the corners, could this be a concern?

How is it handling the bumps?? Is the ride harder??  And have you noticed any loss of cornering ability??

These are my first 412's and for what I like, they exceed the 440's which are more expensive. nope they're not as rough riding as the 440's, which all my buddies have been telling me.

they're adjustable so you'll have to find your sweet spot. For solo I'm liking mid settings...Wendy rode with me a few hours and with her on I load it 3/4 firmness...and it's really good. She likes them better than the 440's. She did like the stock shocks and so did i but like i said...i was seeking another 1/2 lower.

now as far as cornering..sure if you lean this enough even with stock shocks you'll scrap...so of course another 1/2 down and you'll do the same thing. I dont ride this bike that aggressive yet do lean in pretty close to scrapping occasionally.

in summary...for me they exceed the 440's ride and are smooth with no bottoming or topping out over bumps...you are lower so there is the chance to scrap bags and floorboards.
