I believe the 20w-50 was designed with higher ash content to enhance the bearing performance as a motor oil. However, from what I understand, this has caused problems with the clutches, and they recommend using their 10w40 4T for the primaries.

However, the answer the guy give here on the link you provided, seems to contradict what was answered for another guy where they stated to use the 20w50 in all three holes.

Either way, I use the 20w50 in the motor, the 10w40 4T in the primary, and the 75w140 in the Baker DD6.

I meant for use only in the engine, not primary nor tranny.

Doesn't matter what size.  There is nothing magical about one versus the other based on engine size.

I ran 15W50 Mobil 1 for many years on a TC88 back before Harley stopped claiming it would do everything but cause your hair to fall out and came out with their own synthetic, with no downside whatsoever.  When Mobil brought out the V-Twin product I switched to that but I would have no qualms about running the 15W50 if that was all I could find.  It doesn't have the same additive package, and isn't rated for use in the trans, but since I don't buy into all that "all 3 holes" BS that wouldn't bother me.
