back firing and vacation, HELP!!
« on: July 05, 2004, 06:28:25 PM »

Hey Guys,

Installed Rinehart ture dauls the first week I had the bike. Rinehart said shouldn't have to make any changes. Bike seemed to be running good. Took the bike in for the 1000 mile service. They said I should put a new Chip and do the down load, I said do it. When I picked the bike up it was back firing all the time, as well as stalling at the first stop I made. Took it back and said it needed a stage one air filter, I said do it. Again it ran and sounded like a "POP CORN" maker. They said they didn't know what to do so they put the original down load back in bike. Seems to running ok, but worried about the fact they don't know what the heel they are doing. (MIKES FAMOUS in Wilm., DE)

Going on vac. this thurs the 8th. will be uneasy the whole time. What do you guy recomend.

Bobby,

1-302-218-4600 if you would like to call me.

Thanks,

This is my oppinion. You're 2 in to 2 exhaust is differant from the stock exhaust in that the stock is more like a 2 into 1 than a 2 into 2 and should be tuned diferantly. Some exhaust reps are saying no need to retune but to opimize performance I would retune on a dyno. By adding a screamin eagle air filter with out retuning you will run lean possibly cousing damage. If I was leaving for a trip and didnt have time I would put the stock air filter back on and as soon as I got back put screamin eagle air filter back on,buy a race tuner, have dyno tuned by a respected tuner in you're area.If tuned correctly you will be verry happy. Are you in maryland ? Another person on this forum and I had our bikes tuned at skips speed shop in wichester va  good luck

I don't mean to sound flipant, but you might notice a significant difference if you get your bike dyno-tuned by somebody who has "performance" experience.  Often, it will be an aftermarket shop that will have the performance experience.......it's their bread and butter.

I agree with watsot if you have the high flow air cleaner with the rinehart exhauast and are running the stock download, you have to be running dangerously lean. check some of the post here their are guys that have your setup see what their using.

I agree with the majority here you have to be running dangerously close to the damage threshold!! Power Commander or Race Tuner pick your poison, but it is gonna cost you close to $400. Very risky proposition taking that trip running that lean. I personally went for the race tuner (purchased online at chicago HD 20% off list, paid $368) I went thru very similiar popping problems until I got the map for the EFI from the exhaust manufacturer installed, now I am very happy with performance[smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

PS: find a shop that knows what their doin' for future work...your profile say's MD try Zippers they have an excellent rep!!! [smiley=beerchug.gif]
