Steely Dan Concert in Tuscaloosa
« on: August 20, 2011, 01:02:36 PM »

My sweet wife bought us two tickets to attend this concert tonight at the new Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre by the river.  I never got to see these guys "back in the day", so this will be a real treat for me, as I always considered their music to be so different than anything else at the time...a fusion of blues, rock, jazz.  What an appropriate venue...home of the "CRIMSON TIDE", and where I attended college.

I have enjoyed their music immensely and have seen an (the software will not let me write F agan with no spaces WTF)

and Becker many times.

I only wished I could have seen Skunk Baxter on stage with them.

I own every album they ever produced, started out as a studio band, then forced to tour.

Have seen SD 5 or 6 times. First time was with Jim Croce (I know, quite a ticket) in Sioux City, IA somewhere around 1975. Saw them twice in two days several years ago, Minneapolis & Denver. Ran into Cornelius Bumphus (sax player -RIP) & Ricky Lawson (drummer) at the hotel I was staying at the evening of the Denver concert. Have loved these guys since Can't Buy A Thrill!

They are playing at the Minnesota State Fair in a few weeks. May pick up some tickets. Always enjoy reading their tour website. Hilarious antics!

Enjoy the concert and out serve that precious wife of yours!

Far out dude! Enjoy the concert sounds like fun. Still love the "back in the day" music best! First indoor concert I ever attended was "Rare Earth", ears rang for hours. Great chit.

Well, SD did not let me down...they were GREAT!  Played most of their better known stuff, in addition to some newer, jazzier type numbers.  The new amphitheatre in Tuscaloosa is a really nice venue, so I'll be attending some additional concerts there since it's only about an hour from B'ham. Tight, professional playing, with perfect engineering on the sound system.  If they are coming to your area, don't miss them!   :2vrolijk_21:

Another check on my "Bucket List"... ;)
