Anyone tried one of these?
« on: May 31, 2006, 02:30:59 PM »

The HD HID Headlamp is "pending obsolescence" whatever that means. :-(  Anyone tried one of these?

That looks pretty interesting.  Does it require a ballast like the H-D one?

Yes, all HID lamps require a ballast.

I have one of those in my bike. Works great, doesn't heat up. Good product.

Very Interesting. The JW Speaker HID Headlight kit looks EXACTLY like the H-D model. I put the H-D version on my '05 cherry  [smiley=cherry.gif] SEEG and it works very well with a LOT of light [smiley=cool26.gif]. It just needs to be aimed correctly. The aiming mechanism that it came with tended to max out the headlight aiming height a little on the low side (damn DOT  [smiley=furious3.gif]). Easy to fix, just take out the tension spring around the vertical aiming screw and cut about 1/2" off of it, reinsert, and voila- now you have plenty of adjustment range to aim it higher. The longer spring minimizes the range you have to aim (I think purposely so not to blind oncoming traffic  [smiley=vrolijk27.gif] ).

I bought the H-D HID headlight for 2 reasons (I have HID on my cars): 1) it's one thing to be seen by OTHERS  [smiley=uhoh2.gif] and 2) do you know at age 50 (I am 53) your eyes need TWICE the light to see [smiley=shocked2.gif] as they did when you were 20 ??? AND it gets worse as you get older.... [smiley=end.gif]

56, it even works for me.  I have the HD headlight.  Having had HID on many cars, I wouldn't be without it and if you're riding in the boonies it really works.
