FLTRSE3 performance upgrades?
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:40:37 AM »

I just bought a pre-owned 2009 FLTRSE3 with 5,000 miles. The windshield, seat and pipes are visibly different from the factory parts. I have no idea if there have been any engine mods or performance upgrades. Any suggestions on how to find out? Anything I should look for? I'm not a mechanic so tearing apart the engine is not an option.

I am also interested in recommendations for performance upgrades if I discover there have been none.

Thanks

Track down the previous owner if you didn't buy it directly from him.  It should be on the title.  He may even be on here.

I bought it at a Harley dealership and I doubt they will give me the name or any info about the previous owner. I don't have the title because it's financed.

Couldn't hurt to ask.  I know a number of people, myself included, who told the dealer that if anybody wanted to contact me about my trade they could.  If you have an insider at any dealer you can try having them put the VIN into the system to see what it comes up with.

In the meantime...anybody here recognize this bike? :nixweiss:

$.02:  A better picture of the exhaust would help; both from the side and rear.  The A/C and pipes appear stock in your photo.  If it's still quiet, it's probably stock.  You can always ask the dealer to see records of what has been done.  All they can do is say no.  What are you trying to accomplish?  If you crank the throttle, is it fast enough?  If so, why touch it?  The reason I mention this is that the guys who have stayed stock seem to have no trouble keeping up.   Even so, most SERG owners on the site went at least Stage 1 (Pipes / Fullsac, Cat removal and tune).  Cams would be the next step.  There is lot's to read here.  Good luck.

Did your bike come with a tuner? If the previous owner had the pipes changed, maybe the installer used a Race Tuner or another brand but that small module should be with your bike somewhere, when I had my Rinehart slip-ons installed a Race Tuner was installed and a module sent with the bike to connect later when I do more upgrades. If that module is not with your bike, then would one assume no Race Tuner/fuel mgm system was ever installed so no further upgrades such as cams were ever done to the bike. I'd probably say your bike is stock other than the exhaust, so now let the fun begin!!!

if u have stock exhaust, the rest will be stock...I doubt if anyone would install a cam, different fuel map/Power Commander, etc. and leave exhaust untouched.  99% of the time, the exhaust is the first thing changed.
