Motor losses power while driving
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:57:17 PM »

I have a 10 SEUC, just did a oil change on it. Wife and I went for a ride and as we were riding we noticed a loss of power, low oil pressure and we could smell oil burning, Didn't notice any leaks. Stopped had dinner and headed for home oil pressure better and bike ran better for about 30 miles, Than it started loosing power and pressure again. Changed oil back to Syntech and put about 20 miles on it and have same problem. Any advise on where to look, the Bike is stock other than X-pipe and mufflers                       thanks  Chilly

Possibly the scavenge side of the oil pump isn't returning the oil to the tank meaning too much oil is staying in the crankcase. My wife's road glide did that, made it lose power, wouldn't rev over 4000 rpm, and smelled like burning oil. Found out by pulling the plug in the bottom of the crankcase, you shouldn't get more than about a tablespoon of oil out of it and you have to be very careful when reinstalling the plug. Had to replace the oil pump.

If still under warranty get it back to the dealer rigght away and they should take of it.  Sounds like Hogdooz nailed it though.

Had an engine seize on an early bike, felt the same: serious loss of power before locking up rear wheel.  Similar problem as mentioned, factory had installed a gasket incorrectly and covered an oil passage...

O-ring in the oil pump may have failed

Finally had a chance to drain the dry sump, had a hard time getting plug to break free. I got out over 32ozs of oil. I had to warm oil up to help release the plug. when I checked the oil level after warming it up the oil was aerated. Thinking possible "O-ring" behind pump?  bike has 7500 miles

If your lucky, it's an o'ring....but....it's more likely the scavange side of the oil pump....   :nixweiss:
