Ya know I had to make the same decision. Sorta. Should I buy the older one or the newer one is what it really boiled down to for me. New frame and suspension, auto compression releases, abs brakes, plus all the other improvements I have learned about really made my decision for me. But I was looking strictly for CVO by then. I realized early on that I couldn't put together a bike with CVO features and have one that would retain value like a genuine CVO. I priced many options and it really never added up to the same value without being a genuine CVO.
Sure you can buy a newer non CVO bike and add to it over time, but you're never going to get it back when you sell. That fact and the tech improvements over the years they have made tip the scales. If you've only got a certain amount of cash, then I would go for the well cared for older CVO over newer non CVO. If cash isn't a big problem, then go with the newest (shy of brand new) CVO you can afford.
(I never bought a brand new one and never will, they take too much of a hit the first year)
Geez listen to me talkin' like I know it all and I'm getting my first CVO myself. I guess I've been brainwashed/indoctirinated by this forum. No I don't want to be deprogrammed.
