New HD RG under fairing Amp Kit
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:32:31 PM »

Anyone bought this to install?

In another HD snafu they've created the mounts and wires that would allow
Ultra users to simply plug n play move the HD amp under the fairing and make
the tour pack detachable easily without having to buy $1000 worth of new speakers, amps and
install fees.

It's got to be what is installed in the 2012 anyone got a picture of where this goes
on the 2012's under the fairing?  Or maybe even willing to get a layout of the mounts.

Talked with dealer and of course it's not available separate, but it's got to end up  being a 2012
PN as no way HD is doing this differently in a kit or in production.

Love to see a diagram, maybe even parts numbers, last time
at the dealer they didn't have a breakout sheet for the mounts, looks
like two mount plates and a new wire harness.

From HD

Boom!™ Audio Fairing Amplifier Kit - Road Glide®

Take your music to the streets. Boom!™ Audio Amplifier Kits allow you to crank up the volume with significantly less distortion. The amplifier provides more power than Original Equipment radio alone, resulting in increased volume, fuller sound reproduction, reduced clipping, and lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) than head unit alone. When teamed with Boom!™ Audio Speakers, the Boom!™ Amplifier provides 50% louder (6dB) system output than other popular aftermarket system's at the same volume setting. The system-matched high-output signal features optimized sound equalization for crisp, clear vocals and maximum bass response, and the strong mid-range response cuts through wind and road noise. The fairing-mount amplifier features 40 watt/channel (160 watt total) output. Kit includes all mounting hardware.

Next time you are at the dealer, ask a parts guy/gal to print out the installation instructions for that kit.  There will probably be a line drawing of the amp/brackets.  What looks like a bracket is probably an end cap of the amp that incorporates a 23 wire receptacle.  Said another way, that end cap is an integral part of the amp housing.  Here's the installation instructions for that amp for the batwing:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J05266.pdf

You can see the amp/mounting bracket are made as an integral unit; the brackets aren't separate from the amp.  See figure 5, page 6.  Presumably, HD could have Harman Kardon make a single amp and provide brackets separately to be compatible with batwing, sharknose, or under tour pak installations, but it doesn't and hasn't.

As for the 2012 using the amp shown, that's extremely unlikely since the amp shown is 40W per channel and the 2012 FLTRXSE info says it uses a 100W per channel amp like that used in the SESG2's and3's.  Someone will have access to a parts book for that model and can supply a part no. for comparison.

The amp in the FLTRXSE is the same 100W/channel, two-channel amp used in the '12 CVO SG; I verified the p/n today as my local dealer had the parts book for both models.  You can buy one if you like.

My dealer is doing that right now the parts are not available just like the conversion for the tail lights led to turnsignal

From the image on HD's site if you blow up the picture the two brackets on the end of the amp  are the exact same as my 11
and you can see the two other brackets are bolted to it using the same mounting holes in order to put the amp at an angle
and are different than the ones in the manual you posted I'll try and get the instructions tomorrow but I think the after install
kit is different than the 12's install in the pdf
