Proper cleaning of air cleaner
« on: September 30, 2011, 06:47:50 PM »

Just got back from a three day trip and found oil dripping from the a/c. As this is a dry element, what procedure is used for cleaning? Bioke just turned 9K.

Toss it away. Get a K&N for the ventilator air cleaner. Very inexpensive, and you will feel an instant change in throttle response.

Wash with warm water and dawn. You will not feel any performance increase for K&N over a clean paper filter if both are equal in design/form. K&N will clean/recycle more times than paper which if you have one makes them a good deal over time. But just soak your paper one for a little while, rinse well and let dry, it will look and work good as new.
Bye the way, I have the K&N and a paper one, no difference.

I'd suggest following the instructions in the manuals.  Dawn dishwashing detergent always worked well for me, or you can buy special cleaners from Harley and others.  Don't just throw the element in a big tub of soapy water however.  The idea is to clean the outer surface without transferring all the crap to the inner surface.
