Front fork air baffles.
« on: October 22, 2011, 02:41:25 PM »

I have seen these on a few bikes. I was hoping for some input to see if maybe they really do throw the air down and and maybe deflect it onto the front cylinder or maybe they would throw it out to the side and hinder air flow to the front cylinder. I know that when I put the wind deflectors on my 95 Heritage(the ones that attach to the side of the fork where the windshied attachments are and run parallel to the forks) it did help keep the cold air off my knee caps with no bad side effects. What do you guys think?CAHDBIKER

I have it on my '08 SEUC.  It does seem to deflect air downward to the front cylinder, and it even filters out some of the bugs that come along--always have to de-bug it after passing through the swarms.  Not sure it keeps the breeze off the knees.

I've had the same one on the 05 and now the 10..  I "believe" it blows air down on the V Twin, keeps air from coming up the sides of the tank, and it's chrome.     :cherry:

I have one on the Evo, and just put one on the SESG last week. I like them, and I think they do deflect some of the wind down onto the engine and cut the airflow to you a bit. Plus, as has been pointed out, it's a nice piece of chrome in an otherwise pretty dark and dull area!

Doublecoppers, Thanks for the input. I think I will put one on my 09 based on yours and some of the other comments I have received. I have lowers on my 09 ,so the wind deflectors I was referring to are the ones that run parallel to the forks and they are on my 95 Heritage. To be truthful I put them on my 95 Heritage back in about 1996 and I am on my 3rd set now because they will crack around where the bolts attach them if you don't put them parallel to the forks. Although the first two sets lasted a long time I realized that the were failing because I was putting stress on them because of the way I was mounting them. I realize this is off topic, but they really do work. I would recommend them for people with softails and roadkings. Also they are a really nice piece of chrome that has a function and makes the front of your bike look beefy.

CAHD,

I really like the ones you have on your Heritage; they do make the front forks look good and block the "knee-air."

DoubleCoppers, In my opinion they definitely block the air hitting your kneecaps.(when I put them on I could feel the difference in the throttle ) However, that is on a Heritage, I don't know if you could add them to your Ultra( see attachment ). On the other side of the coin I guess a person can make just about anything fit if they want to.CAHDBIKER

NorthGeorgiaHawg, Great looking bike! Seems like you got the mods just right.CAHDBIKER

They won't fit a SE Ultra or Street glides unless you change the turn signals and spot lamp bar. There is someone making them after market though but I can't find the link anymore. someone else here might chime in and post the link to the ones I'm talking about.
They do help the wind. I run them on my Limited year around.
