Switching my windshield
« on: October 27, 2011, 04:15:36 PM »

Hey guys, I need your input  ;D. I purchased a new Freedom Shield and it arrived today.  I went out in the garage and looked at my mc and before I start turning screws, I just wanted to check and see if I'm doing it correctly.  There appears to be three screws that hold the trim strip to the top of the fairing.  Do I remove these and the old shield just pulls straight up and out  :nixweiss:  And then I just slip the new one in and put the screws back in ?  Once screws are out, does the top of the fairing just open up like a clam?  Or just a small crack and I can't see in the crack if I'm lined up correctly.  I wait for your expertise before I attempt this project   :dankk2:

Yes, it's those 3 screws.  It'll pull out.

You may need to spread it slightly, with your fingers, to get the new shield down in there......but it's a pretty straight forward install.

**Note**  Start all three screws before tightening and be sure not to over tighten.....just enough to close the fairing up against the shield. :2vrolijk_21:

For future reference there are more screws that need to be removed to get the front fairing off (see pic below)...

If your new windshield is the same thickness as the one you are removing you could put a piece of tape by each screwhead then make a mark on the tape and a mark on the screwhead that line up.That way you will know when you are at the same point as before you took it apart. Put the same screws back in the holes they came out of. This is what I do on when I work on smaller screws that don't get torqued not rocket science just kind of a guide for those of us who tend to overtighten things.CAHDBIKER

Also, be careful in 2010they added a gasket to the shield and it will stick to the fairing and tear if you do not seperate it fully, do not ask how I know!
