Very bright turn signals, is it normal?
« on: October 29, 2011, 08:18:11 AM »

This might be a stupid post but here it goes. I installed the turn brake module ( Harley unit ) Works great but the rear turn signals are soooo bright when the ignition is on, and get even brighter with the brake. The bullets get very hot and the lens started to melt a bit. With no brake applied, the signals are way brighter then the main tail light. I then changed to a Kuryakyn led turn signal, tail light set up, and the same thing. The led turn signals are supper bright. So I bought a Kuryakyn run brake pulls module ( the one with the red shrink wrap, and used the equalizers ) same thing. Is this normal? I asked the steeled but as usual told me to take off the aftermarket crap, and go jump in the lake. Do any of you guy,s have this ( possible  ) problem or is this normal. Cheers.

If you're melting lenses with the heat from the incandescent bulb it's obvious it isn't "normal" as if it we're we'd all have melted lenses.  No idea what is causing the high power condition to the lights.  But, no, what you're describing isn't normal.

I take it this condition didn't exist before the first changes?  If that's so take all the additions back out and make it all original again.  Make sure the problem is gone.  Then carefully do your reinstall one item or even one connection at at time.  Use that to isolate the cause.

Sound advise!
And when you find the cause, let me know as mine aren't bright enough  :2vrolijk_21:

My wife's bike has the same condition.  Rear bulbs are single element but very bright all the time and only very slightly brighter when the brake is applied.  It looks like the brakes are on all the time from the turn signal bulbs whereas the regular center brake light is obviously much dimmer until the brakes are applied.  We bought the bike used and I've also wondered if this is normal.

I dint know what the first problem is but to those of you that have harley cheap junk unit it is made to run turn-as-brake lights at 50-50 meaning that it is run at half brightness badlanders kit{MADE IN USA} is made to run 70-30 meaning when running lights are on they are the the same brightens as the taillight already on your bike  plus there are no heat issue you could run 4 way flashers all the time like perade duty and it has a lifetime warranty I had the harley unit first and hated the way it look at night and took it off went to badlander kit very pleased
