Last weekend my BSR taped me on the shoulder and said her back pad was loose. We stopped and sure enough it was very loose about to fall off!. I got out the tools and went to tighten the screws but they were already tight in the nutserts but 2 of 3 had pulled out of the pad. I turned the only one left and it pulled out also. Man I am glad it did not fall off and hit my fender! Whew! Called my dealer and talked to the service manager and he was not sure if there is any warranty on this or not. they have not contacted me so I am guessing i am on my own. I am betting that is a high priced little jewel buffalo hide insert and all!  Has anyone else had this problem. If so did you buy stock replacement or find something better? I don't have a pic right now because I am at work.

Just the pad, $199.99 MSRP, P/N 51576-09.  I would think you should be able to come up with some sort of anchors that you could use to "fix" the existing pad.  Might be worth a trip to a good hardware store.

Looks like the foam itself gave way around the anchor system.  My first thought is some sort of injectable adhesive to grab on to both side.  But that's only an idea without a product recommendation to go along with it.  Send a PM to site member Hotrodstitcher.  He's an upholstery guy.

I had never used mine, wrapped it in plastic and put it up when I brought the bike home. We use tourpak instead when she rides with me. In August of this year I got it out and was going to use it as we were in a hurry and I grabbed it and unwrapped it and guess what, all three of the retainers were broken loose from the pad. This had to be done when built. Talked to service writer who said they would check with HD. But when I got back home I mixed up a big batch of JB weld and made myself a little cardboard jig. I let it set-up for 24 hours and then reinstalled it, we have since used it twice since with no problems, I actually tightened the bolts tighter than they really needed to be just to see it it would hold and no problems. JB Weld is an amazing product.

Thanks guys! I may try the jb weld but want to check with an upholstery shop first. If this is not fixed properly and falls off on my fender I would say that will carry a pretty hefty price tag. If I can't come up with a good solution it may end up in the trash! I like the solo look better anyway and have been eye balling some solo seats. BSR can hang on or find another ride! I am glad someone else has a bad one because I was beginning to wonder if she has been using it as a handle for mounting the bike and tore it loose. She is off the hook for the min. lol I do have a Corbin back rest I can use for the time being although I don't care for the look of it at all!

I looked this situation over pretty good, the only way you are going to be able to really fix this situation if to remove the leather/vinyl cover and foam then fab a new base for the foam/cover. This could be done by a upolstery shop if you find one that is a little creative. Do not throw it away, I would like to have another one to take apart and "play" with. My JB fix is at best a stop gap deal, I think it will hold, I have watched it for cracking after both times we used it and it seems to be making it OK. But if someone is going to throw one away, holler back, I will take it apart and see what can be done permanently to cure this.

Thanks. I think I will take it to a local upholstery shop and see what they say. If they can't do it I will try the jb weld trick. I have used it many times. I keep it at work and carry jb quick in my computer bag for quick fixes on service calls. I was looking this over last night and having flash backs to sissy bar pads of the past BA HAAAAAAA! Anyway I seem to remember they usually had a wood back panel with the nut serts in it and never had one pull out. This all foam design is another cost saving piece of crap IMO! Come on a $30k plus bike! When do we get the plastic fenders and chrome? Just saying!

I agree 100%, JB will not fail but the foam around it will.  Any good upholstery shop can take the leather off and make a new board with inserts in it and re place the foam and recover.  I would never risk having it mess up my fender. JMO

UPDATE! I recieved my backrest pad from Sid (Hotrodstitcher) Today! Not only did he do an awesome repair but he also added a metal plate inside to hold the nut plates! Excellent work my friend! This is how the moco should have done it! Sid did a great job for me and no charge! I am very humbled by this act of friendship! I cannot tell all of you how much I enjoy this web site and the great people who are on it! I will be paying it forward!!!!
