Foward controls
« on: December 30, 2011, 07:48:48 AM »

Has anyone put foward controls on a Convertible?  I just bought a 2012 and am wondering if it can be done, and where can I get some with matching pegs....Thanks in advance... :-\

I just put forward controls on my 11. Harley makes a kit or you can source it on Ebay like I did. The FX softails fit the FLs.
There are a few potential conflicts with the side stand and brake lever. If you use 2000 to 2006 controls you need the side stand
and brake lever from those years. If you find 2007 and later your existing side stand will work and of course you need a 2007 and later FX brake lever. Any FX shift lever will work. Your existing master will work also. The master will slide off the bracket and if you modify the new bracket like the existing one, pretty minor hacksaw work then you will avoid having to bleed the rear brake. If you want Rumble pegs you likely have to go new at about $100 each. There is no small Rumble brake pad available but I think the Slipstream looks pretty good at $40. Call my if you like for futher details. 303-875-0977

by your estimation, how much extra legroom did you pick up and what was the approx cost of the project?  Do you ever miss the floorboards?  Thanks

If you want to check out the fit of the forward controls just go and check out any FX Softail, it will be quite similar. I pieced mine together off ebay and I am only into the project for $140 but that doesn't include the pegs and brake pad.
Harley has a kit for $320.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448771644&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302289223&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302289223&locale=en_US&bmUID=1325354328543&bmLocale=en_US

I had had two FX Softails in the past and never had issue with the pegs. The FLs with boards are just too damn low and scape practically standing still. I put on Progressive suspension and very little difference from stock, don't waste your money. Still scraped every where. People say change your riding style. What ride slow. I can push my Electra pretty hard before I scrape, a lot further than the Convertible for sure. Fx Solftails and Dynas that I have owned rarely touched.
I also didn't like the way my feet danced on the boards at high speeds, always seemed like my feet would gradually slide to the rear. I'm happy now.

Thanks, excellent advice.  You did just save me some money because I was thinking about the Progressive upgrade.
