Got mine taken care of yesterday. Had rear brakes go out in a parking lot thankfully with another rider.

Man I screwed that up. What I meant to say was that I heard about another rider over here in Korea lost his rear brakes in a parking lot due to the switch. That's when I decided to get mine replaced right away. But I agree with what you said.

I was referring to the problem of the brake being left in the "applied" mode after pedal release.

Yup, kind of like those folks who drive down the highway in their cars and trucks with the left foot resting on the brake pedal.  In my experience they rarely seem to equate their choice of footrest to the extremely short life of the brakes.  In the case of the Honda recall, they have managed to eliminate the operator part of the equation and automated the brake drag.  Must have followed Harley's lead and bought their stuff from China.
