Ride back from Daytona
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:05:46 PM »

I went to Daytona Bike Week, meeting a friend of mine from Tampa for the weekend. Well, he turned up the 4 back west and I went down I-95 back to Hallandale Beach. I stopped for gas about 30 miles into the ride. My distance is 270 miles. At the gas station, a nice old fella came up to me and said he had a 1969 Harley 1200. Nice to have a bit of comradery on the road. well, that continued.

If y'all that went there noticed, the first weekend was rainy. On the way back on the Sunday, it rained about 50% of the time, nothing major, just enough to get wet. Since I had a lot of work to do back home, and some big meetings on the week, I needed to get back.

I got lucky. On the way back, I met up with two riders, both on Harleys, who were making good time. I rode behind them for as long as my tank would last, all the way to the Turnpike exhchange. Doing my part as the third rider, I provided blocking when we were switching lanes to the left lane and such. It was a great ride! Without those two riders, I would never had made the time I did. The ride lastest 2 hours. When I pulled over as I needed gas, my legs were stiff and sore but I was exhilerated and still am over the memories.

Never got a chance to thank the riders. Not sure they new who I was other than seeing a strobe light orange bike on their tail reaching speeds around 85 and sometimes more.

If by some small chance there are folks on this site who noticed the orange rider going down 95 on that Sunday, thanks!

Justed wanted to share a great ride experience.

I love those unspoken pack rides!

I also like the look of the bike; I'm putting those 2 into 1s on my 09 Springer right now.

Great looken ride.  Running I-95 is as boring as I-5, so anytime you can have company making that run, it shortens the trip.  I used to run between Orlando and Jacksonville every weekend back in the late 70s.  Glad you had a good end to Bike Week and a safe return home.  All rides are good rides when you roll two wheels into the garage under power.
