Best parts for 88 to 95" upgrade
« on: December 21, 2011, 08:21:01 AM »

Hi Guys,
I am a Die Hard EVO FXR man but I will admitt i need help with getting the best parts that will work together for Hopping up my son's 2006 FXST TC 88" to 95".
I have new black S.E. 3.875" cylinders and new S.E. 3.875" Flat top pro cast pistons. I understand that this should be a good reliable build.
I am considering the Dave Mackie TC510 cams. The 2006 heads will get a street port job. The 40mm CV carb will get a HD Dynojet kit with a free flow air filter.
My son loves his drag pipes but I was able to talk him into a small set of baffles to help the lower end power.
My few things am am worried about is and will replace when upgrading his motor.
1  new cam chain tensioners inner and outer and new cam bearings.?
2  With 26k milles should I go ahead and replace the lifters? What is best? get stock size or the plus size?
3 We can not afford to do anything to the bottm end at this point. I Prey that the crank is good.
4  If the crank is ok the oil pump should be OK?

Any pointers on the buils is appreciated. This is a limited build due to a limited buget in today's economy.
Thanks,

Had a 00 RKC a few years back and did the 95 kit from HD with the matching heads that made 10.1 comp. The cam choice was 203 or 211. I used the 203 and pulled a trailer. Without a trailer would have used the 211's. Great combo for me at the time. Good luck to you.

Definatley do the new cam plate/pump/tensioner combo. This will replace the stock parts with the late model hydro tensioners and high volume oil pump. 25284-11
For the cam you should talk with your head porter and choose a cam to suit your riding style. Do the porting and set compression accordingly.
Yes on the new cam bearings, inner and outer.
Yes on the lifters, stock HD or Fueling HP+ work well

That cam should work just fine, but and Andrews 37,(10.0 cr) or Wood 6(10.3cr) may be something to consider as well.
OE lifters are a very good replacement.
OE oil pump is fine, but an oil pressure shim, or spring would be a good idea.
If your son wants the drag pipes, skip the actual baffle, and 3" from the end, drill a clearance hole for a 1/4" bolt, and install a 1/4" bolt, 1 1/2" long, and slid 3-4 5/16" nuts on, then the 1/4" nut.
This WILL pick up the low end like the baffle, control the reversion, and expose almost the same hp as the drag pipe, without creating the hidious sound that a baffled drag pipe makes.
In most cases we've seen 12-15 ft/lbs increase in the area, where the open pipe suffers. :)

Ok great thanks Guys
One more thing. the cast 3.875 SE flat top pistons should be about the same weight and not need rebalanced.

Cam question.
I see a set of S.E. 204 cams for early TC  used on Ebay for 125 bucks. The DM TC510 (300 bucks) has more timing 4 degree difference more in intake and exhaust they both have cam timing of 38. Would I notice the difference between the SE 204 and the DM TC 510 cams. I would save 175 bucks but ut would be used, what ios the best way to go?
