Starter and Pinion Gear
« on: December 30, 2011, 02:15:29 PM »

I am interested in replacing the starter in my SEEG with the HD chrome version. The bike as about 30,000 miles. To what degree do the starter and pinion gear become mated such that one should probably replace both?  Thx, kr

On your SEEG, the pinion gear is seperate from the starter via a "Jackshaft"..  Outer primary has to come off.  If you are like the rest of us SEEGer's, you will find the flywheel ringear with chipped teeth.  We have changed the starter pinion and ringear to an aftermarket brand and a different tooth count (gear ratio) with great results.  The factory teeth are fine splined and the aftermarket gears are coarse.  Good luck.   Do a search on here and you can read about the gear sets.
