screen removal
« on: March 30, 2014, 12:53:02 PM »

Anybody remember a while back, possibly a year or so, someone said they had a way of removing the screen securing screws without loosing the captive nuts into the fairing. Was it posted and if so any idea where it is. I want to take the screen on and off when I cover the bike on a trailer to prevent damaging the screen, I presume this tip would be a big help.

Thanks JohnT

John the last time I had mine off the retaining nuts stayed in place as they bulge out once installed.  The only time I ever had an issue with them pulling out was on older bikes that sat out in the sun and let the rubber around the retaining nut degrade.

Thanks' for the response Chains. I'll give it a try. It's just that the post I recall seemed to imply there was a regular issue with the nuts dropping into the fairing then being difficult to get at, requiring stripping the fairing.

If they fall through get some extras, way easier than pulling the fairing. If I pull mine I bet there is a full set rolling around in there! :o

Agree...Also, try not to over tighten the well nuts. I do the center first followed by the ends and finally the ones in between.

Take the wellnuts out when you take off the shield and slightly start them on the bolts going through the shield. Then put the shield back on with the wellnuts on the bolts.

Thank you Ohiobellboy, I believe that is the one I was after.
