I am running a powered J&M audio hidden antenna.  Not as good as stock, but none of the hidden ones are.

I like it because it also has a splitter, so you can still run the stock one and essentially have two antenna.  My stock one is zip tied under the left side of the frame rails.  It runs from the Jiffy stand back to the swing arm.

Running both it is as good if not a little better than stock.

This has been greatly debated on many threads here. I believe I have read all that is here on cvo Harley about this. I have also used a tune trapper on my 07 street glide. It sucked for me! In a nut shell here is my opinion: If you live in a hilly or mountainous area or anywhere where radio reception is fair to poor. NONE OF THE HIDDEN ANT. WILL WORK WORTH A DARN! If you live where there is good reception or near a large metropolitan area then you can get decent results with any of them. Take it for what is worth? You can read here all day or believe me. Even the short ant. that hd provided on my bike is questionable in a poor reception area. My advice FWIW buy an IPOD and load it up with your favorite music then make a play list for the bike set it and forget it.  Good Luck!

No hidden antenna will work as good as the stock one. I replaced the stock one with a shortie in the stock location and it worked fine. No matter what I have read on the hidden ones...they are not as good as stock. That being said, the Tapper has been the best perfomring hidden antenna that I have used.

I have the J&M hidden as well, going back to a shorty for better reception.

Tom,

Do you have this antenna?  I can't imagine how any hidden antenna could be as good (or better) than an external antenna.

Lots of testimonials but no money back guarantee?

Not me. Would Love to hear a review from one of our forum members that live in a rural or mountainous area? I am extremely skeptical! :nixweiss:

Does this Antenna Concepts really work? I was really disappointed with the shorty that came with my bike.  I now have a standard length on now that I had laying around here.   Looks like crap, but the reception is like night and day. So much better.

If a long, standard antenna is much better than the shorty (which is much better than the J&M hidden that I've used), I might want to try something other than the shorty.  I was pretty satisfied with the shorty compared to the hidden.

Tom

I had that one already.....didn't work well for me and I have some pretty strong stations in my area. I think my Tune Trapper is a bit better..but still no where near as good as the stock one. I leave it in there since I almost never use the radio......

While I generally agree with Faceracer's opinion, I have used a simple parts store antenna laid in the fairing under the radio with decent success.  It costs $10 @ autozone.
