wiring & passenger earbuds with a tourpak
« on: February 12, 2012, 03:57:15 PM »

Has anyone ever read, seen or discussed wiring up earbuds for the rear passenger use on a bike with a tour pak? I have the tourpak with rear speakers but unfortunately my wife can't hear them that well as she wears earplugs when riding b/c of the air turbulence. So I thought of wiring up a female plug in for the earbuds she uses with her iPod and kill 2 birds with 1 stone, blocking the air and her hearing the stereo.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

You can get an adapter that allows plug in of a 3.5mm earbud then plugs into the HD audio plug, I bought one off Ebay...This will only allow the earbud (or headphone) use, won't allow for the voice if you need that also.  There is a site that sells them, maybe another memeber can provide that link.

My wife likes differant Music then I do  :huepfenlol2: so she listens to her own Play list (nano, smart phone) with her earbuds.

On long trips, sometimes she downloads books.

No, he's talking about the stereo/intercom system on bikes so equipped, not the AUX input on the front of the head unit.  The HD is a 7 PIN plug, but you can get an adapter that makes that a 3.5mm stereo plug.  No microphone though.

I have an adapter that is about 4-5" long, has 7 pin female on one end, and male on the other, with a headphone jack breakout.  You can plug in the helmet and still have use of the headset microphone, but allow the use of earbuds or molded speaker earplugs. Got it at Daytona several years ago from one of the molded earplug vendors.

I found it necessary to add an in-line volume control to the earbuds.  Got the volume control from Radio Snack.

Only downside is that it does not work with the CB hand-held microphone.

Midnight Rider.....don't have that stereo/intercom plug so that option is out.

spada84.....don't wear a helmet 99% of the time and when we do we don't have the intercom feature. I did read from another member that if I wire up a female plug to the rear speakers I would need earbuds with an inline volume control. And I don't have a CB.....this is just a CVO Road Glide with a detachable added on tour pak.

Thanks
