SESPT...got cables and software...need a little help
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:24:34 AM »

I've read as much as I can comprehend so far about this tuner.  It seems the more I read the less I understand. ???

I have experience with a PCIII and a little with TMax.  I just find the Pro Tuner software not very user friendly.

I bought my bike used with 640 miles on it and it already had the Pro Tuner with a dyno tune.  I just want the ability to tweak it if necessary.

My first question; can I work on the map with just the dongle hooked up to the computer or do I have to have it also hooked to the bike? I tried it but most of the software buttons were unresponsive.  Am I doing something wrong?

I think if I can navigate the software for a while that will help me understand it better.  I just don't want my bike ignition on for the time period I'm messing with the software.

You might need the whole thing hooked up and the bike powered up to fetch the calibration off the VCI, I don't know, but I think the VCI gets its power from the bike.

Once you've got whatever information you need from the VCI you can unhook everything and just play with the calibration in the software.  If you make changes, save it to a new filename and next time you're all hooked up again, load it into the VCI/bike, all powered up.

I'm not fond of the software, either.

the "dongle" needs to e powered up by the bike to work with it. Do as glens suggested.

I think this answered my question,  once I hooked up to the bike I saved the file in my computer.  I could see the file in the software but I couldn't find anything that resembled a map etc???  I guess I'll try again.

The training DVD would be a good investment I think.  I have searched everywhere for a video going through these steps and really didn't find anything useful.
