Need advice on SERT download .......
« on: July 11, 2006, 10:25:04 AM »

I Just bought my 06 SE Fatboy this last weekend and will be installing a SE 2/1 tuneable pipe.   I have a friend who wrenches on the side but he is not real sure on what to do with the download.

1)    Does anyone have a map for a SERT for this set-up?
2)    He is suggesting maybe doind a factory flash as well as Power Commander as an alternative.  Sounds pricey to go at it bith ways.

**   I would rather do the SERT since all of us here seem to go that way.  If I do the SERT, do I still need a flash.   Can I get by with just the factory flash???

Thanks for any advice/help.

One of the canned SERT maps will work pretty good until you have time to get it dyno tuned. My CUSE ran great with #36.  Finally did have it tuned, but seat of the pants feels the same to me.

There are canned maps that will get your bike up and running, but to optimize the performance you will want to have it dyno tuned. Each motor is a little different in some aspect or the other which will make one map on one bike w/same mods run a little different on another bike. A canned map will allow you to be able to ride the bike w/o worry of doing any damage to it (providing you pick the correct canned map)

There is another source for canned maps that may have the set-up you are putting on your bike. They do come at a cost, but they may have what you looking for if none of the members here can provide one. Check with HD Maps

I would go with a Canned map to start off with and it will more than get you by.  Now if your anal and have OCD at your earliest opportunity you will have it dyno tuned by someone good.   That does not mean just a run at full open throttle that says your 13.0 or 14.0 to 1 that means someone spending the time to be sure your bike runs well at low rpm and in the traffic vs. just wide **** open.

Power Commander has evened the playing field as of late, but it is just one more piece on the bike that could end up in the dumper.  Not saying it will but it could on the ohter hand there are a lot more shops that use the Powercommander because it tunes itself by holding the throttle at the appropriate throttle position for like 2 minutes so the shop can make bookoo bucks off you when the tune really only takes them about 40 minutes :)

Just incase you want to know how bad your being taken for your money.
