TTS or SEPST on 103" FLHXXX Trike
« on: February 12, 2012, 11:19:43 AM »

Looking for an opinion here.

In our small group of friends I have become the resident "Harley guy". When they need parts, they ask my opinion or to order them. When they buy bikes, I'm asked to attend... I'm sure many of you know of what I speak. I'm a fairly capable "shadetree mechanic" and I have always done as much as I can do myself and inevitably do the same for my friends.

None of this bothers me, in fact I am happy, even honoured to help or be asked for my opinion. This is what brings me to my question.

My best friend wife has a 2010 FLHXXX Street glide trike. Stock 103. When it was new she added VH slip-ons only. At the time I had recommended going high flow, tuner and removing the cat, but her husband didn't want to spend the $$$. Since having done his own bike correctly, he now has no choice but to spend the doe on hers.

As headers for a trike are not common (fullsac only) but we have a local shop that will very cleanly remove the cat from her stock header, not unlike fulsac. She now has a highflow ac, so now it's tuner decision time.

I've done both mine, my wife's and my buddie's bike using SEPST's. I have the software and cables and used the recalibrated HD maps available from the SE List. All that said i have had both my wife and my own bike dyno tuned and have seen noticeable imporvemnt in HP, TQ and tempurature just by proper tuning, which tells me even HD's recalibrated maps are WAY to lien.

I know from posts here that Fullsac supplies maps that are 99% the way home to clients who buy their wares. As I am not using Fullsac products, if i were to buy a TTS Mastertune rather than a SEPST for this job, how would I get a good recalibrated map for this trike? If i were to buy the TTS from Fullsac, would i be within my rights to ask them for one?

At the end of the day I want to get as close as I can on this without dyno work (Trike dyno hard to find here) and without going with the built in Smart tune Features these tuners have. I just want to use a new map that is closest.

i would go with the TTS over the HD product.  I would think that Steve@fullsac would share his maps with you.    You could then prove out whether the  bike was too lean or not by running a few V-Tunes and verifying how close the map was for the bike and even bring it in closer if it is not to your liking.   The TTS seems to be truer in its A/F levels where the SuperTuner seems to be .5 to 1 full AFR off.

The other big consideration is if either of them are off do you have a tuner that has a dyno that can support a trike or can use either of the software.  This may end up being more important than the brand of tuning device in the end.

There are a few ways to think about this.....Go with the TTS from Fullsac and Steve will certainly share any maps that he has with you and the v-tune featurew can get you close to perfect. If you happen to find a dyno that will accomodate the trike, then I would ask that person which tuner he is more comfortable with since he will be working on it. He may suggest either of those or something else entirely.

That being said, I will add another vote for the TTS.
