best speedometer ???
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:33:27 PM »

Ok, In addition to my ongoing "CVO Dyna project" and other bikes, my favorite is my hot rod Shovelhead.
Needless to say, the ol' solid-mount stroker b*tch vibrates a bit and as such I have had trouble keeping a functioning speedometer on her which is really important so as to help me to remain within the confines of the law as desired.

I am about to purchase speedo #4 on this engine build and would like some recommendations on which one to go with for reliability at all costs.

Any help would be appreciated.

I gave up on speedos years ago so I can't really help you there. Just thought since I still have my 1980 FXB Sturgis I'd ask what year is your Shovel? I have upgraded to a 93'' S&S motor and a six speed tranny.

Mine is a conglomeration , 1979 FXE frame , S & S engine, Andrews close ratio 5 in a 4 spd box, etc.

No class act like a Sturgis , that's a nice bike you have !
...... a local guy here is doing a complete , and thorough, total restoration on a Sturgis right now, I'll post pics when he's finished.

Thanks, I will be looking forward to seeing them. I still use the original frame but all else has been changed. Stortz Inverted mid glide front forks, Fournales rear shocks, Jaybrake four piston calipers, '96 and above switches and master cylinders along with the tranny and engine change. We also have a mint '91 Sturgis here.

Thank you, but I was sort of hoping to stay conventional.

Any other ideas out there ? Is there still an obscure Auto Meter offering out there I haven't located ? something ?

I've used Dakota Digitals on 2 different bikes. They both worked excellent and they have a ton of different applications. One of the many cool things about these is that when the power is off they just have a clean black face. Hope this helps
