Rineheart or V&H?
« on: April 27, 2012, 11:38:52 PM »

Made deposit on CVO-SG today.  Dealer says Rinehart or V&H to go with your tuner.  Is there a performance difference? Don't like quiet or I'd peddle.  Maybe the 4" Rineharts?

I haven't been a big Rinehart fan with the old 3" mufflers.  I even took them off my O4 Seeg. I was out recently riding around with someone that has the new 4" pipes and they sound great. I was very surprised amd impressed.   They look good too.  He has their head pipes too.   I do like that now.  :2vrolijk_21:

I went with Rineharts.  I love them. Their header system is a stepped header.  The sound is awesome.

My brother is running Reinhart Tru-duals with Reinhart 4" mufflers on a 2012 103" Street Glide and I am/was running V & H Dresser Duals (true duals) with V & H Hi-Output Slipons on a 2011 CVO 110" Street Glide. Both are stock except for tuners and both have the Screamin Eagle air cleaners. He is using Harley's tuner and I am using the PowerCommander V.

From my ear the sound comparisons are:
Reinhart: Smooth nice rumble at idle with some crack on throttle.
V & H: Deeper rumble at idle (about 15%-20% more) and big crack on throttle (about 30%-40% more)

Tuners:I have not seen any difference in every day performance.

I have run V&H on my bikes in the past and they do tend to have a "hammering" tone on normal cruise that can get to you after a while. BUT they sound spectacular when you're on it!

My V&H setup is pretty darn loud even for me and I like my bikes a little louder than most. I know the Hi-Outputs are the cause. They are a wide open design. I've heard the V&H Monster Rounds and they are quieter and are louder than my brother Reinharts.

Given what I've heard I have to say I'm really liking the new 4" Reinharts. They seem to be quiet enough to not get annoying on a long day ride but are loud enough, even for me, when you want to play.

If I had to do it all over again the Reinharts would be on my bike.

PS: Although some people don't like the design of the Reinhart Tru-Duals they do provide equal length header pipes. The V & H Dresser Duals have unequal length header pipes which you will notice in your right ear while your riding. The shorter rear cylinder head pipe than runs to the right muffler is much louder than the longer front pipe that runs to the left muffler.

Quite frankly I hated that right ear volume so much that I cut the cat out of my stock 2-1-2 header and replaced the V&H Dresser Duals. Now my bike no longer has that "Harley" potato potato sound like you get with true duals.

Hmmmm, as I'm writing this I'm trying to figure out where to get the money to replace what I have with the Reinhart setup that my brother is running. :2vrolijk_21:

Willy are you saying the Monster Rounds are louder than the 4" Rineharts? Really? I thought they sounded like the Monster Ovals, which are kind of mellow.

To the OP, some here are talking about the slip ons, and some are talking about a true dual set up- quite different sounds. Which are you asking about?

North Star,

I had just been at a local HD dealer with my brother when another rider parked next to us. Honestly the 4" Reinharts were quieter than the monster rounds. The guy with the monster rounds was also using the V&H dresser duals. Sitting side by side the monster rounds seemed to have more "crack" when reving. Overall decibel levels were probably only 2%-3% higher but the "crack" was more high pitched.

Surprised me as well.
