oil pressure question
« on: May 06, 2012, 03:24:49 PM »

I know this may be very different depending on the gauge...but my 110" used to say 32 psi on the oil pressure gauge at 70mph when hot--even in the middle of summer....lately it is reading at the line before 32 and it's not even 70 degrees outside yet....nothing sounds any noisier than usual--for a 110" that is----I still have the same amount of rattles and knocks in the motor as I had a day 1. Should I be concerned? I guess it could be the gauge also???

Four things to check. Use direct reading guage to ck oil pressure.  This will eliminate the guage an sending unit if it reads the same. Next to ck if it was the same would be the relief valve. If it is sticking either open, which would lower pressure.  If it is that it's possible the oil pump is getting scorerd from wobbly crank. My 08 was sticking in the closed position which caused h igh oil pressure . The pump was scored and I guess it was putting trash through the up relief valve. The plate was worn on one side an therefore not running square on the plate. INMO the crank was wobbling.  Good luck.

Crank runout was checked when the cam was done...it was in specs....
