2009 Road Glide CVO Tank Badge
« on: May 16, 2012, 09:25:31 PM »

Help, the left tank badge was broken and is missing.  I purchased a new one with my vin # but Harley wants the old one.  Does anyone have a broken one I can purchase to send to Harley so I can pick up my new one.

It is. Start working up the chain.  Parts manager, dealer manager etc. Call HD customer service, etc.  This sounds like bull to me.  This particular tank badge is a pain anyway. I know of several that have been replaced.  HD has no right to the old one.

I think providing the vin # and proof of ownership should be enough.  (or you would think)

Herrrrrrr!!!!! Have I got this right CVO = Custom Vehicle Organization? Hand build bikes by one HD experienced Technician and the tank badges are falling off! I hope the tech that built mine didn’t have a hangover! I would have thought Harley would gladly give you a replacement badge to stop you putting message on sites like this one. Good luck with your search.

The tank badge is NOT listed as a restricted sale part.

PART NUMBER 14100216

listed in parts manual for 2012 FLTRXSE page number 109, item number 18

Disregard... the '12 is not restricted... the '09 is... seriously.

and i didnt need to turn in the old ones to order spares

PART NUMBERS:

62776-09 LEFT

62777-09 RIGHT

This happened to me once before for another bike with restricted parts. By missing I assume you meant it was "STOLEN" off your bike while it was parked somewhere. If you file a report with the police about this stolen part from your bike, a copy of that police report will be sufficient for Harley to release the replacement part for your bike. Harley wants to know that the restricted parts are not being used on non-CVO bikes which is why they want the old ones turned in and destroyed. I agree that the policy is extreme but do what you have to do. Good luck!

Jewells,

Here's a thought, call or send an e mail to Rebecca at Tri County HD.  You'll get 20% off.  There is a thread about her good service.  I've used her several times to get parts.   :2vrolijk_21:   :2vrolijk_21:

i bet they'd sell you one if you were having them install it.   I keep breaking off the rear points.   Replaced several times.

While I have not broken mine off, I routinely catch my cleaning rag on the points and bend them.  I am almost at the point of removing them permanently.  I would have preferred some sort of painted logo instead.    :nixweiss:

Exactly.  You would think they would have someone in the company that would have looked at the design of that logo and thought "hey, maybe that point would catch something"   "maybe we should have a painted logo instead"  Or if they just had someone wash a bike, they'd soon find out those points are a no no.
