:orange: Got my bike back this past Friday!! Problem found and solved I hope. One of the new rings put in last summer was in up side down pushing a little bit of oil up and out thru the combuction chamber on ever stroke. Time to ride (a bunch) and see what the oil levels do now! So Far So Good!!

I assume they re-honed the cylinders and put new rings in...surely.

  • If you can't fix it, figure it out then fix it!

I hope that is the fix. I am no AMI graduate like they claim they only hire at Harley but, I must say that I have never heard of the oil ring on a Harley Twin Cam being right side up or upside down, perhaps incorrectly installed such as the expansion ring and the upper and lower oil scraper ring all being lined up allowing blow by. All twin cams I have been into have 3 piece oil rings. I can see them installing the lower compression ring upside down perhaps or even the top ring upside down but for oil consumption? My opinion is there ain't no way!

Let me guess, their "MASTER TECH" diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Sounds more like the usual Harley service department dis-service rip of scam to me! Harley will never be allowed to touch my bike! I love the bikes but their quality control and generally extremely poor service departments are far less than desired.

I would start looking for a quality independent shop with a recommendation of known good workmanship from somebody you trust rather than go back to a stealership.

The best of luck to you and the pumpkin. If they got it right and with proper service/maintenance, pumpkin will run for many trouble free miles and years!

the top rings do have a up and down, some are marked with a dot - some have a radius on one edge - some are marked in the package - but it IS true that if they are installed upside down that problems may happen.
