What All is needed to changetires with ABS Brakes?
« on: May 20, 2012, 06:27:36 AM »

My 70 yr old neighbor has and 09 with ABS Brakes.
He is scared to death to do anything that may possibly be related to those ABS brakes, except at the local HD Stealer.

He is about to pay double the cost of a trusted Indy to have his front and rear brake fluid changed out at the local HD Dealer.
He pays $184 to have his tires changed at the local HD Dealer, "because he has ABS Brakes". That is what I always hear.
He pays high dollars to have brake pads replaced.

He is a nice guy and on a fixed income. I would love to have some information to help steer him toward a Trusted Indy.

Thanks

D R, when changing tires just note how the sensor is located be for taking the axle apart and reassemble it the
same way. nothing tricky just be careful of the wire.

when flushing the abs brake system, flush the system like non abs, activate the abs, then flush again. two ways to
activate the abs unit,1 the dealer has dt computer to activate the abs unit with the bike on the lift between flushs.
#2 flush then ride the bike and brake hard enough to activate the abs about five or six times then flush again.
there will alway be a little cling (old fluid) left in the system.  hope this helps    axil

Dennis, tell your friend to pay attention to the wire on the ABS sensor as mentioned above when taking the wheels on and off.  For just changing pads, however, there is nothing extra or different involved.  Nothing in or on the calipers that is different due to the bike having ABS.
