Front End Damaged...Insights??
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:07:48 PM »

Here I go riding down a city street today, 74 degrees, sunny warm, riding season just opening up when I slam my springer into a sinkhole...not a pothole, but a sinkhole from poor road work.  It was in the city so I hope to have a claim but with the bike shop running 3 weeks out I am going to be losing some serious riding time!!!   :nixweiss:

So now my front end has like, -zero- shock absorbance, the whole thing makes a gawd awful noise but nothing is visible.  Seems the shock is torn up internally and maybe something in one of the springs since it rattles.  Anyone ever have something like this happen?  I am guessing this is going to be expensive.   :(

Sorry to hear about that. Don't mess around with a damaged set of forks. I'd have to have them completely replaced myself just for safety sake.  Good luck getting the city to cover it. They have insurance for this and the roads should be in a condition for all licensed motor vehicles to use, including motorcycles.

I would have the shop check the entire fork to make sure the alignment is true. You may need only to replace shock and bearings. I would also follow through with a claim against the City, even if you must obtain legal representation. As a former Mayor it is my opinion they would have to cover the claim through their insurance.
