Hi Guys,
I want to change my secondary gearing. Tranny 32 to 30 and the rear wheel 65 to 70. Stock 5th gear is to tall (2.92 to 1) new should be 3.36. By going to a narrower belt I can run a little wider tire. If I am going to replace both pulleys why not get the narrower one. Is the 136 tooth the correct one?  My main question is how much HP/TQ can the 1 1/8" belts handle? The parts cost too much to make a mistake and the labor is high. Just trying to get it right the first time. S&S belts 1 1/8" are 135 or 139 tooth. Will the Harley belts hold up OK? Do they make a 1 1/8" 136 tooth rear belt?
Thanks,

One look at all the post on Belt Topics will tell you that the subject has received a fair amount of attention.  As far as I know Harley Belts (OEM) are made by Gates.  I'm not aware of a 136T high quality belt that is wider than 1".  I do not know know who makes the S&S belts.  There are a number of companies that manufacture or have belt made for them.  I would proceed with caution on this subject due to the amount of cost and labor not even mentioning the pain the a-- when one breaks.

I wish I could have been of more help.

The stock belt on my 01 Dyna handled 125hp/125t when I supercharged my 95" engine. That was the 1 1/8" belt. I din't try to go belt when looking for a gearing change, I simply converted to a #530 EK chain. Can't break it, can;t seem to stretch it, even pulling on it with a T124 S&S. Been there for 29000klms now, readjusted only when replacing rear tires (too many-hehe). FWIW  twinotter :)
