88" are history!
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:01:57 PM »

Had that heart to heart talk with my dealer yesterday.
Concerning values of the 88" bikes as opposed to the new 96" and 110's.

The no B/S statement was made that since the 88's are history the bottom will drop for trade in value.  As he said, "not as bad as the EVO to the Twin Cam drop but 88's will now take a big value hit."

Kinda sad HUH?

With that being said, I told him when a low mileage 03 Anniv. Classic or 03 Anniv. Road Glide came in on trade, if the price was good I wanted one of each.
Silver and Black of course!
How fast do I really need to go?

We can not get even close to what we would be willing to sell our 98, 95th anniversary road king, and so ----- "It is cheaper to keep er."  And boy, have we ever used the heck out of it from time to time.  Brother or good friends in from out of town - we got her to spare.  One of our bikes is down - we got her to spare.  It might not be able to keep up 100 % but we don't run wide out all the time, we mostly just cruise, and she can do that, all day long.   ;D   ;D    ;D

I think it will be a temporary "hit" if it is a value decrease at all.  After riding a couple  of the new 96's over the weekend, I don't think anyone with experience with an 88 to 95 build is going to be very impressed.  When the first stock dyno runs start floating around, I think most will be even less impressed.  Unless they get some aftermarket help, they just aren't going to run with any of the good 95 builds that I've ridden over the years.  Great example.....OTIS!

Brian

My plan is to add to the collection.
Throw in heads, cams, 95", and I'm good to go!
For about 5 more years, then they will go to storage.

you might get more than you think for that scoot.
the 95th anniversary bikes were limited editions, unlike in 03 when every bike was an anniversary edition. in my oppinion, the 03 anniversary was a joke.

Normally our local rag has 1-2 harleys for sale in the classified section, usually sportsters. Today I noticed TEN 88"s for sale, 2003-2006 models, by individuals. Guess people are moving up to the bigger motors???
